Sniper rifle “Fort-301” of caliber 7,62x51 mm – semiautomatic weapon intended to hit targets at great distance with high accuracy. It embodies simple and reliable design with easy operating. Standard accessories include: side-folding butt-sock, 6x optical sight and folding bipod. In terms of tactics, Galatz closer to such samples of "support weapons," as the Soviet SVD or German G3-SG1, in contrast to the "pure sniper" designs, such as the American M24, M40 or German Mauser 66 and 86.
Sniper rifle “Fort-301” has been produced since 2009 by Ukrainan NPO "Fort". It is gas operated rifle working on the principle when gases act on the gas piston, resulting in the automatic reloading of the weapon. The barrel is long and heavy, the muzzle is equipped with an elongated flame suppressor, which also serves as a muzzle brake. The tactical silencer could be mounted on the barrel as well if necessary. Foregrip is made of composite materials and it can be fitted with or replaced by bodywork with Picatinny rail for mounting optical sights and other accessories. There is also a special pad on the underside of the forearm provided for fastening the adjustable folding bipod. The rifle comes with mechanical iron sights and an adapter used to mount a telescopic day sight or a night sight. Mechanical sight is located in front of the forearm and consists of muzzle sight and adjustable back sight on the cover of the receiver. In version with Picatinny rail and mounted optical sight, precision fire can be performed only via latter, however additional dioptrical or collimating sight can be mounted on the receiver that basically removes all issues related to the comfort and the possibility of sighting.
In general this gun is treated by shooters and specialists as a convenient, reliable, sufficiently precise and easy-to-operate sniper rifle without any significant performance issues. The first batch of sniper rifles "Fort 301" was delivered to the ATO area in October 2014. In particular it was claimed that members of battalion of territorial defense "Poltava" were the first who received such rifles. Later the new rifles were seen on the Ukrainian military positions in the area of Mariupol and Donetsk.
